Carmel O’Keeffe joined the PMI Victorian History Library board in May, following her nomination by Museums Victoria (MV), – where she is the General Manager of Digital Life – a role that sits at the convergence of museums, technology, and media.

Carmel’s team at MV is responsible for taking the trusted stories, knowledge and experiences developed within Melbourne Museum, Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, the Royal Exhibition Building, Scienceworks, and the Immigration Museum beyond their walls and into digital spaces.

She is also a lifelong library lover with fond memories of her first library card as a child: “It was pink, with my name and address punched into it like a credit card. It was my first personalised possession and I treasured it.” To this day I’m a library joiner, and I’m delighted to have this new opportunity.

Prior to joining Museums Victoria Carmel enjoyed a distinguished career as a multiplatform journalist, editorial manager, executive producer, and network head at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Philosophy and a Masters of Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies.
