The PMI Victorian History Library Gets Mobile with New Outreach Program

The Prahran Mechanics’ Institute Victorian History Library (PMI Victorian History Library) is always looking to find ways to reach Victorian residents. In March, it will launch a new Gippsland outreach program in collaboration with the Wellington Shire Council Libraries.

The aim of the program is to make its collection more available to residents and members who are not geographically local to the physical library based in Prahran.

The PMI Victorian History Library is a central resource for research into the history of Victoria and houses the premiere loanable collection of Victorian history available in the country.

A PMI staff member will visit the Sale Library on the first Wednesday of each month with a selection of books from the PMI’s print collection. These items will be available for loan to PMI Library members for a period of 4 weeks. PMI Library members from the Gippsland region are also welcome to reserve items from the PMI Victorian History Library collection for pick up at the Sale Library. Items can be returned at any Wellington Shire Council Library branch.

The PMI staff member will also be available to answer any questions about the PMI Victorian History Library and its collection, or to assist with any research requirements.

The PMI Victorian History Library is a not-for-profit community owned and run library. 1 year, 5 year and Life Memberships (over 60s only) are available.

  • Individual (1 year membership): $15
  • Individual (5 year membership): $50
  • Life Membership (over 60s only): $100
