PMI Membership Application
PMI Gift Membership Application
As the PMI does not receive government funding, we have a
small annual subscription fee:
- Individual $12
- Concession $10 (pensioner, student) (upon presentation of student/pension card, or a copy of this if you are joining by post)
- Institutional $30 (for historical societies, organisations, schools and businesses - any number of your members or staff may join the library, borrow books and receive the newsletter)
Please read the loans information section of this site before you join. The Prahran Mechanics’ Institute is committed to the protection of the private details of our members.

Joining by Post: Print and complete a membership form (link above) and post it to the PMI with your cheque or money order.
Joining online: Use PayPal (link below) to pay for your membership online, then fill in the membership form (link above) and email it to the PMI.

Membership of the Prahran Mechanics’ Institute is open to all.
As a PMI member you can:
- borrow items from the Victorian History Library, including many items in cd & microfiche formats
- access the internet for historical and genealogical research at the library free
- enjoy free tea, coffee and hot chocolate while you read
- receive a quarterly newsletter and recent additions list to keep you informed of goings on at the library and new items in the collection
- receive a 10% discount on all new and second hand books available for sale at the library
- access our members-only book covering service
- enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that you are supporting a not-for-profit, community organisation and one of the oldest libraries in Victoria
Gift Memberships
If any of your friends or family are interested in history or family history, why not give a gift membership next Christmas or birthday?
Gift memberships are thoughtful, affordable, easy to arrange and will surprise your loved one with the gift of reading and benefits of PMI membership for one year.
You can:
- Print out the gift membership form (link above), and send with your cheque or money order. We will provide you with a receipt and post the gift membership details directly to the person you have nominated.
- Purchase a membership voucher which you can pass on to your friend or family member. Vouchers may be purchased when you visit the library, or by post (simply enclose your postal details with your cheque or money order).
If you have any questions at all about membership or the library service, or if you would like to give us any feedback or suggestions for any of activites and services, please don't hesitate to email the Membership Secretary. Members may also make suggestions for items to be added to the library collection.
