Heyfield, Shire of Wellington, Victoria, Australia
Postcode: 3858
Description: Township
Location: 21 km west of Maffra
Named: After station held by Malcolm Macfarlane, supervisor for James Macfarlane,. Hey as a name for part of hillside village near a stream. (Blake)
In 1841 an early settler, James McFarlane, described the district as resembling a field of waving corn, and called it Heyfield. Perhaps it would have been more correct to spell it as Hayfield, however, McFarlane#&146;s erroneous Hey- version has always been the accepted spelling of the name. (Wikipedia)
