Named: After a station, Wirrumbirchip, owned in 1847 by Mann and Falconer. From Aboriginal word meaning one way, referring to a track from Antwerp to Lake Boga. Also spelt Wirmbirchip and defined as meaning the ear. The name was later shortened to Birchip. (Blake)
